New this issue: we retired the percentages. Every day and every event now sits on the Crowd Meter, from HAKUNA MATATA (no worries, just go) to KILL THE BEAST (brace or sit it out). The World Cup that emptied the parks all summer is over, so nothing hits full Hakuna Matata this month. The date to circle is D23, next door Aug 14–16.

🗓️ This week at a glance
|
|
How each day should play, read from our 30-day breakdown pattern and what’s on the calendar. A read, not a guarantee.
|
| Mon 27 |
STAND-BY |
Astros series opens. Mondays run a notch above midweek. |
| Tue 28 |
EASY BREEZY |
Midweek is our quietest lane. Astros in town. |
| Wed 29 |
EASY BREEZY |
Still soft, then Houston leaves town. Sleeper day. |
| Thu 30 |
STAND-BY |
Crowds start rebuilding toward the weekend. |
| Fri 31 |
STAND-BY |
Weekend ramp begins. Nothing on the calendar yet. |
| Sat 1 |
POOR UNFORTUNATE SOULS |
Summer Saturday. Brewers at home, Collect-A-Con fills hotels. |
| Sun 2 |
POOR UNFORTUNATE SOULS |
Our heaviest day all summer. Brewers finale. |

📡 The next 30 days
|
|
Everything on the radar through late August, tiered by what it does to park crowds, with the reason it moves them.
|
| |
THRU AUG 16
EASY BREEZY OC Fair, final weekends
Why lighter: locals peel off to Costa Mesa on Friday and Saturday nights (fair’s closed Mon–Tue), so evening park crowds ease a touch. Wraps Aug 16.
|
| |
AUG 1 & 21–22
STAND-BY Convention pileup
Why neutral: Collect-A-Con (Sat Aug 1), Anime Impulse and the OC Collectors Expo (Aug 21–22) fill hotels but barely touch the parks. Worldcon (Aug 26–31) keeps rooms tight into month-end.
|
| |
FRI–SUN, AUG 14–16 · STACKED WEEKEND
KILL THE BEAST D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event
Why packed: tens of thousands of superfans sell out the Katella hotels and choke every road, garage, and rideshare lane. Add Angels vs Royals next door and the OC Fair’s closing weekend. In-park loophole: queues can actually ease Saturday 11a–4p while badge-holders are locked inside panels. That’s your strike window, not the morning.
|
| |
FROM TUE AUG 18
POOR UNFORTUNATE SOULS Oogie Boogie Bash nights begin
Why busier: on party nights (first is Aug 18), Disney California Adventure closes to day guests at 6 PM, so the afternoon compresses and the Disneyland side soaks up the overflow.
|
| |
FRI–SUN, AUG 21–23
POOR UNFORTUNATE SOULS Halloween Time opening weekend
Why busier: passholders and enthusiasts pour in for the new overlays, with Haunted Mansion Holiday back Aug 21. Crowd bump Friday through Sunday, heaviest after dark.
|
| |
WEEK OF AUG 24 · BEST WINDOW
EASY BREEZY Back-to-school lull
Why lighter: SoCal schools are back (LAUSD Aug 12, most OC districts by Aug 20) and the Arizona and Utah feeder markets too. Weekday parks are the softest they’ve been since spring. The month’s best window.
|
| |
ALL MONTH
STAND-BY Angels home stands
Why neutral: game-night traffic near the park (Astros, Brewers, Rangers, Royals, Guardians, Phillies), no real turnstile effect. The Royals set is the exception, folded into D23 weekend above.

🏰 Disney dates to know
|
|
Event days and refurbishments on the calendar.
|
| Aug 8–20 | Haunted Mansion goes down for its overlay install and reopens Aug 21 as Haunted Mansion Holiday (Nightmare Before Christmas). Plan around the closure if it’s a must-do. |
| Aug 14–16 | D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event at the Anaheim Convention Center. Not a park event, but it reshapes the whole resort for the weekend. Details |
| Aug 18 | Oogie Boogie Bash first night, a separately ticketed after-hours party in DCA running a record 33 nights through Oct 31. DCA closes to day guests at 6 PM on party nights. Details |
| Aug 21 | Halloween Time begins across both parks, included with regular admission, and Plaza de la Familia returns to Paradise Gardens in DCA. Details |
